Naveen Patnaik, the leader of the Biju Janata Dal and opposition leader in the Odisha Assembly, was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday due to dehydration. Reports indicate that his condition is stable. According to a bulletin from the hospital, Patnaik was brought to SUM Ultimate Medicare in Bhubaneswar at 5:15 PM on Sunday. Medical staff have noted that he is responding well to treatment. Party officials mentioned that the 78-year-old former chief minister experienced discomfort on Saturday night, prompting visits from several doctors to his residence, Naveen Niwas.
Patnaik Shares Update via Video Message
In a video message released today, Patnaik stated, "I am currently at SUM Hospital. The staff and doctors are providing excellent care. Thank you for your good wishes. If you wish to visit, you are welcome at Naveen Niwas." Earlier, BJD leaders had indicated that he was hospitalized due to age-related health issues. Patnaik had undergone cervical spine surgery in Mumbai and returned to Odisha on July 12.
He had traveled to Mumbai on June 20 for the procedure, which took place on June 22, and was discharged from the hospital on July 7. Hospital sources suggest that he may be discharged today. BJD Vice President Sanjay Das Burma confirmed, "Patnaik's condition is now stable, and he has recovered from dehydration issues." Following his discomfort on Saturday night, doctors visited his home for an examination. BJD leaders and supporters lit lamps at the Shri Lingaraj Temple on Monday morning, praying for Patnaik's swift recovery. Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed their wishes for his quick recovery.
